An earlier piece, this DA linerlock automatic is a handful, and made as only Gary could make them. The composite damascus blade is 5 1/8” in length and the OAL is 11 ½”. The handle is etched/engraved, and overlaid with a teardrop shaped slab of cream colored mammoth ivory set over a red nylon spacer. The ivory is engraved in Gary’s trademark fashion, and inlaid with what appears to be crushed abalone, along with some larger pieces that serve as leaves in the engraving theme. The liners are fully fileworked, as is the backspacer. The release is heavily carved, and slides forward. There is a turned, polished, and fileworked stud opposite the release to rest the index finger on, assuring a good grip when deploying the blade. The thumbstud is turned and polished. A solid, fascinating piece from a gentleman who certainly stands on his own in knife design.
