Two words best describe Charles Bennica, “Simplicity and Perfecton” He is a full time knife maker from France, and sold his first knife in 1990. He started with fixed blade knives, and made his first folding knife in 1991. Charles worked with legendary knife maker Steve Johnson on his finish, and developed his own unique style of fluid and simple, elegant designs. As a former machinist, he learned the importance of tolerances, which helps account for his perfect fit and finish. He will spend a minimum of sixty plus hours on a folder. His art knives are unique in the knife making community, and he has developed and perfected his own “butt cap” lock mechanism, which, along with his designs and craftsmanship, have earned him numerous honors and awards, both in Europe and the United States. Charles likes working with ATS34, and damascus from such legends as Conny Persson, Hank Knickmeyer, and Friedrich Schneider for his blades, and generally uses 416 stainless steel for his folder bodies. He favors wood, Mammoth ivory, mother of pearl, stone, gold, coral, and other natural materials for handles and inlays. Charles and his lovely wife Chantal only deliver knives a couple of times a year when he visits the New York and Solvang knife shows, so his knives are generally prized and very hard to find.
