Wolfgang Loerchner is a part time maker who specializes in mostly very ornate, traditional straight knives, though lately he has started making a fair number of folders. His designs include small swords, daggers, stilettos, locking folders, and miniatures. He favors D2, 440C, and 154CM steels. All of his knives are flat ground and hand filed, and his designs and carving are legendary in the knife world. He has also collaborated with well known makers like Tim Herman and Charley Bennica, and is one of the twenty-five makers included in the prestigious Art Knife Invitational in San Diego. Though he has a couple of reasonably well known imitators in this country, "Wolfe" is far and away the master of carving stainless steel.
