Vernie Reed has been a knifemaker for around seven years now, having as his mentor very well known and respected maker Jerry Corbit. He started, as many makers do, with fixed blades, but switched to making folders after about three years or so. He now specializes in fancy linerlock folders and automatics. He uses damascus from top smiths like Robert Eggerling, and favors the use of natural materials for his handles. Many of his knives feature fossil Ivories and various mother of pearl scales, and Vernie also does some carving in them. He uses gold and gemstones as well, and does a lot of fancy filework on liners and backspacers. His work is showing up in an increasing number of fine collections everywhere.
